History

Balasore Social Service Society (BSSS) is a non-profit social development organization, was established on 24^th October, 1992 under the "Societies Registration Act" XXI of 1860 at IGR, Cuttack, Odisha Regd. No. - 19342/61 from 1992-93. From the beginning of its activity, BSSS has addressed the problems and challenges of the severe droughts and floods region. Later, BSSS also dealt with issues of sustainable development such as health, education and aspects of people's livelihoods. The vision of BSSS is a "transformed society in which love, peace and justice prevail". The mission is to "promote, facilitate and enable sustainable human development of all, especially the poor and marginalised, by combating poverty and disease, improving the quality of education, ensuring livelihoods, food security and disaster management through emergency assistance". BSSS program areas spread over to four districts; namely Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar for livelihood promotion, health, child protection and disaster risk management and emergency management.

Before the legalisation of the organisation prior to 1992-1993 various social activities were undertaken within the banner of BSSS such as; safe motherhood and child survival, food for labour work, early childhood development centres, support to old people in the infirmities, credit union for SHG.

BSSS was initially led by its first chairperson, Rev. Fr. Paul Kidangan, under whose leadership the organization carried out numerous relief efforts and health camps. Over time, around eight directors have contributed to the organization's growth, guiding various developmental initiatives that have helped establish it as a prominent NGO within four districts of Odisha.

BSSS to reduce poverty, hunger, and disease in society, provide access to quality education and social protection, ensure respect for human rights and human dignity, growth of children free from violence and exploitation, and promote inclusive economic growth implemented various programs in partnership with the CBOs, other Non-Profit Organisations, Corporates and the Government.
